OTUOKE – Vice-President Namadi Sambo has described inter-state marriage as `an effective channel to unite Nigeria.’
Sambo made the remark on Saturday in Otuoke, Bayelsa, during the traditional marriage of President Goodluck Jonathan’s daughter, Faith, to Godswill Edwards.
The VP, who chaired the ceremony, said that inter-state marriage had contributed to Nigeria’s unity and peace.
He said: “I urge all Nigerians to take advantage of inter-state marriage to build a more unified nation because the incumbent administration is committed to oneness.
“For the couple, who have married today, I prayed that God’s blessing shall continue to manifest in your union; learn to be each other’s companion and friend.
“I congratulate you and President Goodluck Jonathan for this colourful occasion,” he said.
Also speaking, Gov. Liyel Imoke of Cross River described inter-state marriage as an avenue “to extend good fortunes to states, communities and villages in the country.’’
He thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for giving his daughter to the son of an indigene of Cross River and promised that the people of the state would take good care of her.
In his remark, Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa expressed gratitude to dignitaries who graced the occasion and prayed that God should grant the couple fruitful marriage. (NAN)
