Police arraign man, 28, for misappropriating N180,000

ABUJA – The police on Tuesday arraigned a 28-year old man, Chris Ayegba, in a Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja for misappropriating N180,000.
Ayegba, a sim card registration agent who resides at Mpape, Abuja, was alleged to have misappropriated N180,000 given to him to deposit in the bank.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Al-Hassan Abdullah, told the court that one Ms Ebere Ugwu of Kado Kuchi, Abuja, reported the matter at Mabushi police station, Abuja, on Nov. 26.
He said that sometime ago in the month of August, the complainant gave Ayeagba, who is working for her, the sum of N180,000 to deposit in the bank.
Abdullah added that instead of the accused to pay in the money as instructed, he diverted it to his personal use, an offence which contravened the provisions of Section 309 of the Penal Code.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the allegation against him and the prosecutor prayed the court to grant him a date to open his case against the accused.
After taking his plea, the Magistrate, Mrs Folashade Oyekan, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 and two sureties in the like sum.
The magistrate ordered that the sureties must be persons with reasonable means of livelihood and must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court as she adjourned the matter until Dec. 8. (NAN)
