ABUJA – Mr Uzochukwu Alutu, 22, research officer with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), has clinched seven top prizes at the University of Benin’s 39th and 40th convocation ceremonies.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Asishana Okauru, the NGF Director-General, on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to the statement, Alutu, who graduated from the university in 2012, with a First Class in Economics and Statistics, won the prizes at the ceremonies held on Nov. 19 and 23.
He won among others, the Dean’s Prize for best graduating student in the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Departmental Prize for Best Graduating Student in the Department of Economics and Statistics.
The statement congratulated Alutu who joined the NGF in 2013 as economic policy researcher for the feat, and urged him to continue to aim for excellence in his endeavour.
“We at NGF are exceedingly proud of Alutu who is clearly one of our many talents.
“We urge him to continue to work hard, to aim for the best in his endeavour; on our part, we will continue to encourage him, to spur him on to aim for the sky.
“He is the kind of talent Nigeria needs at this difficult time. We see him giving a lot back to his country, the African continent and the world in the years to come,” the statement said.
It, however, said that the recruitment system of the NGF had always been based on merit and excellence, adding that Alutu’s accomplishment had shown that the forum made no mistake in employing him.
It added that the forum had several young great talents like Atulu, committed and self-driven, stressing that it would continue to put their talents at the service of the country.
The statement further added that Alutu had since won a Commonwealth scholarship, and had been granted study leave by the NGF to study at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. (NAN)
