Farmer docked over alleged N120,000 fraud

Okitipupa – The Police on Thursday arraigned a 40-year-old farmer, Omosehin Aladejowo in an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over an alleged fraud of N120,000.

The defendant of no fixed address was in court on a two-count charge bordering on felony and fraud.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant and one other at large on March 23 around 10:00am at Ode Iyansan via Okitipupa Magisterial District conspired to commit felony.

He added that the defendant from October 2018 to March 2019 was collecting money from one Adefemi Iyaneyin under the false pretext of contributory saving (Ajo) but failed to remit the money for what it was meant.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 421 of Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Dickson Ogunfuyi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 and a surety in like sum.

He added that the surety must have a landed property in Okitipupa with an evidence of a year tax clearance.

He adjourned the case till April 11 for further hearing.
