ABUJA – A Gudu Upper Area Court in the FCT on Friday sentenced one Godfrey Stephen to 12 weeks in prison for stealing a power generating set.
The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, convicted Stephen on a two- count charge of breaking in and stealing, following his guilty plea.
He, however, gave him an option of N16,000 fine, and warned him to desist from committing crime.
Kagarko also ordered that the accused should pay to the complainant, Mrs Blessing Ishaya, N45,000 which, he held was the worth of the generator.
According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Shedrack Dauda, Stephen, who has no fixed address, stole the property in October from Ishaya at her residence at 86, Zone D, Apo Resettlement, Abuja.
He said that Ishaya and Mr Ogungbadejo Yinka reported the case at the Apo Police Station, on Dec. 1.
Dauda said that Stephen conspired with one other person, still at large, to commit the crime.
He said that the complainant’s neighbours raised alarm at the theft and pursued the thieves until the apprehended Stephen while his accomplice escaped.
Dauda noted that the offences contravened Section 97, 349, 354 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
