Primaries: Ondo PDP adopts consensus candidate for Akure Federal Constituency

AKURE – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State on Saturday returned, Mr Dare Aliyu, as it consensus candidate for Akure North and Akure South Federal constituency in 2015 elections.
The Chairman, PDP Congress Planning Committee, Dr Oluwadare Bada, who announced this in Akure, said that the party opted for a consensus candidate.
“It is only when we are unable to reach a consensus that we go into division, but because of the merger, we have been able to integrate properly and we have agreed to a consensus arrangement.
“This guarantees cohesion and removes acrimony and gives us the opportunity to move forward fast,’’ Bada said.
Aliyu, the consensus candidate, promised to do his best to serve the people, including the delegates who chose him as their representative.
“We are going to reach out to all contestants in order to work together in the interest of all of us and uplift of our Local Government, state and Nigeria,’’ he said.
Earlier, Gov. Olusegun Mimiko, expressed optimism that the PDP would win all the categories of the oncoming 2015 elections.
“I have no doubt in my mind, especially in this federal constituency, that a lot of the votes coming from here will be a significant proportion of the overall votes that we want to deliver.
“Our target is one million votes and we will get it,’’ he said.
He said that as the leader of the party he would be fair and just to enable the party to move forward.
NAN reports that the event, which started at 10 a.m., was peaceful.
Seventy-two delegates from both Akure South Local Government and Akure North Local Government participated in the primaries. (NAN)
