PORT HARCOURT – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers on Saturday announced that it had returned Mr Kingsley Chinda, representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency unopposed at its primaries for 2015 elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this was announced by Dr Monday Eleanya, Chairman, PDP House of Representatives Primary Election Committee for Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency.
Eleanya said that of 61 delegates, who came for accreditation which commenced at 9 a.m. in the area, 57 were accredited and they all voted for Chinda.
A party stalwart, Mr Sam Woke, who spoke with NAN after the announcement, attributed Chinda’s return to his support and loyalty to the party.
Chinda, who also spoke with NAN on his reaction, thanked the party for appreciating his contributions to the development of the party in the state.
He said that his efforts were geared toward putting the party at the forefront of democratic practice.
Chinda, however, called on his constituents and Nigeria to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy that would be devoid of tribal sentiments.
The leader of the party in the state, Mr Nyesom Wike, had earlier said that the party would also return three other incumbent representatives as consensus candidates due to their commitment to the party.
They are Mr Ken Chikere, Port Harcourt Local Government Area 1, Blessing Nsiegbe for PHALGA 2 and Mr Bright Gogo, Ogu/Bolo.
This shows that out of 13 federal constituencies in the state, four candidates have emerged while nine would be elected by the delegates.
The state Chairman of the party, Chief Felix Obua told NAN that the results of the federal representatives’ primaries would be announced later. (NAN)
