LAGOS – A total of 58 aspirants are contesting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) tickets for the House of Representatives for the 24 federal constituencies in Lagos State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, out of the 58 aspirants, five are unopposed.
The party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr Taofik Gani, confirmed the figure to newsmen in Lagos on Saturday as the primary election was about to begin.
He said that the unopposed aspirants were from Etiosa, Ifako Jaiye, Ibeju Lekki, Kosofe and Lagos Island 2 Federal Constituencies.
Gani said that the candidature of the unopposed aspirants would be ratified by the delegates in their respective constituencies.
He said that all other aspirants would go for elections.
Meanwhile, distribution of materials for the primaries could not begin until about 2.45pm.
Attempts to reach the chairman of the committee set up by the party to handle primary failed as a party official told journalists that the committee members would not talk to them until the end of the election.
NAN reports that the party held its House of Assembly primary election on Nov. 29 in 40 Lagos State Constituencies. (NAN)
