AWKA – Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra State has presented four Coaster buses for use by the workers in the state.
Presenting the buses to the Head of Service, Mr Chidi Ezeoke, in Awka on Wednesday, Obiano urged the workers to rededicate themselves to service and demonstrate absolute commitment to the development agenda to transform the state and the people..
He said the gesture was in fulfillment of the promise made to the state workforce during his maiden meeting with them last month.
“Civil servants play fundamental role in the success of every administration and they should be encouraged with the necessary logistics that will make their work easier.
“I believe that these buses will help to alleviate your transport difficulties, and ensure that you report to work early,’’ he said.
Obianyo said that late comers no longer had excuses to make with the availability of the buses.
He re-iterated that his administration was ready to fulfill all the promises he made but that in return, the workers must turn a new leaf.
The buses will be plying four designated routes every work day. The routes are Onitsha to Awka, Nnewi to Awka, Ekwulobia to Awka and Otuocha to Awka.
He further said the government would fast track the completion of the 1,000 housing units at the civil servant estate in Isiagu to tackle the accommodation challenges of workers.
According to him, measures are now in place to improve the state’s internally generated revenue to enable his administration to work on the issue of minimum wage in line with his earlier promise to rebuild both fiscal and human infrastructure.
Ezeoke commended the governor for the prompt fulfillment of his promise to the workers.
He urged the workers to reciprocate the gesture through hard work and dedication to duty to attract more interventions from the government.
Also reacting to the development, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state, Mr Patrick Obianyo, and his trade union counter-part, Mr Ifeanyi Okechukwu, said the gesture would encourage punctuality and greater productivity.
Obianyo said that late comers no longer had excuses about lack of transportation. (NAN)
