OSOGBO – An Osogbo High Court on Thursday sentenced four members of an armed robbery gang to 21 years in prison.
The four convicted persons – Omotayo Sunday, Kamoru Satoye, Biliaminu Alalade and Fatai Muraina – have been standing trial since June 11, 2013 on two counts of conspiracy and armed robbery.
The prosecution counsel, Mr Dapo Adeniji, said the offence was contrary to sections 6(b), 1(1) and (2) (a) of the robbery and firearms (special provision) Act Cap R11 law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Adeniji earlier told the court that the four convicted persons had on Oct. 20, 2010, forced their way into Obalosun cocoa store in Ipetumodu, Ife North Local Government Area of the state.
He said the convicted armed robbers disarmed the night guard, tied and gave him machete cuts on the head, before carting away 20 bags of refined cocoa beans, valued at about N462, 000.00.
Delivering judgment, Justice Foluke Awolalu, said the prosecution counsel proved the allegation against the convicts beyond reasonable doubt.
Awolalu sentenced them to 21 years in prison on each of the two counts.
The judge said the sentence would run concurrently. (NAN)
