Abuja – A 30-year-old fashion designer, Gabriel Wallang, on Monday appeared at an Upper Area Court in Mpape, Abuja on a fraud charge.
Wallang is facing a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating involving N50, 000.
The Prosecutor, Mr Stanley Nwaforaku, told the court that the case was reported at Maitama Police Station by one Houston Bawa of Kaduna Street, Wuse 2, Abuja, on behalf of one Dr Temiwa Balogun of same address.
Nwaforaku said that on April 29, the defendant was entrusted with N50, 000 to purchase a sewing machine in Kaduna for and to deliver it on May 3.
But, he told the court that the defendant dishonestly converted the money to his own use.
The prosecutor said that the defendant was consequently arrested by the police.
He said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
Wallang, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The presiding judge, Mr Hassan Muhammad, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50, 000, with one surety in like sum.
Muhammad ordered that the surety must submit a copy of his driver’s licence or National Identity Card for verification by the court.
He adjourned the case until June 28.
