Fire: Immigration says no damage to building, property

ABUJA – The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Wednesday denied reports that a fire outbreak had gutted its headquarters’ building in Abuja.
Mr Chukwuemeka Obua, the Public Relations Officer of the service, made the denial in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Obua said the incident actually took place at the refuse dump at the service headquarters near the Mami market, but that it did not affect the building,
“People selling wares in the market were trying to burn refuse at the dump but unfortunately, fire started at the dump and extended to the dry bushes around.
“And in order to prevent any damage to property the officers and men of the service nearby raised an alarm,” he said
The spokesman said the service security team then called men of the Federal Fire Service and those of the Nigeria Air Force Fire Service to assist in putting out the fire.
“The service did not lose any valuable property neither was any building gutted by fire, and life was not lost.
“ The fire did not affect the store where valuables worth millions of naira are kept. Everything is intact,” Obua said.
Our correspondent who visited the service headquarters reports that normal activities were going on as the incident did not affect operations. (NAN)
