KADUNA – A Non-Governmental Organisation, Generation for Peace (GFP) has trained over 8,400 volunteers selected from 50 countries on conflict resolution.
The News agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the GFP, is a Jordan-based global non-profit organisation, founded by
His Royal Highness, Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein of Jordan.
The organisation is dedicated to sustainable peace building and conflict transformation through sport, art, advocacy, dialogue and empowerment.
The leader of the NGO, Mr Baba Tunde-Ajiga, who told NAN in an interview on Monday in Kaduna, added that the volunteers were selected from the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe.
Ajiga said the organisation was providing unique training and continuous support, mentoring youth and empowering them to lead and bring change in their communities,
“We are training them on promoting active tolerance and responsible citizenship at the grassroots, to address local issues of conflict and violence,” he said.
He said that the organisation was also interested in the use of sport in promoting peace.
“ Sport is a physical activity and also a universal language that can address a wide range of needs relating to education,
health, youth development, peace building and sustainable development.
“Every April 6, is marked by our organisation as International Day for Sport Development and Peace to encourage the power for social change in all corners of the world, he said. (NAN)
