2 employees docked over theft of coy’s N.8m computer

LAGOS – Two employees of a company, Mike Ajetua and Sunday Mbanuda, were on Thursday arraigned in an Oshodi Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing the firm’s ultra book laptop computer valued at N800,000.
Ajetua, 29, who resides at Etelewa, Ikorodu, and Mbanuda, 23, of No. 15, Adeoye St., Oshodi, Lagos, were arraigned for conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, said the accused committed the offences on Dec. 11 at the premises of Arbico Company at No. 7, Industrial Road, Ilupeju, Lagos.
“The accused, who were the company’s cleaners, conspired to steal the company’s laptop,” the prosecutor said.
Olatunde said that the accused were in possession of the key of the office where the laptop was kept and were always the first to enter the office to clean it.
“On that fateful morning, the manager collected the key from the accused to open his office but found out that the laptop was missing on his table,” he said.
The offences, Olatunde said, contravened sections 285 and 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail term as penalty for offenders.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety each in like sum.
