LAGOS – A 25-year-old trader, Omachoko Ukpoji, who allegedly stole a motorcycle valued at N120,000 from one Lateef Ibrahim, on Monday appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ukpoji, a resident of Olodi-Apapa area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Kingsley Jackson told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 3 at No.8, Ladiga St., Olodi-Apapa.
Jackson said that the accused with others still at large stole a motorcycle valued at N120, 000, property of Ibrahim.
“The complainant said that the accused and his accomplices entered his compound and stole his motorcycle.
“Ibrahim said his neighbour, who saw them trying to steal the motorcycle, ran after them and caught Ukpoji, while the others escaped with the motorcycle,” Jackson said.
He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes three years jail term for stealing.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences.
Ruling on the bail application of the accused, the Senior Magistrate, Mr Mukaila Fadeyi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan.16, 2015 for trial.(NAN)
