LAGOS – A driver, Oko Mark and his motor boy, Ifeanyi Uwake, were on Monday docked at an Oshodi Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over the theft of a N2.8 million truck.
Mark, 38, who resides at No. 2, Simon Aniadako St., Ikotun, Lagos, and Uwake, 37, whose address was not provided, are facing charges of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, said that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 30 at Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos.
Olatunde said that the accused fraudulently obtained a truck with registration number FST-579XZ, property of one Mr Anya Onuegbu.
“The accused approached the complainant to hire his truck to transport goods to Makurdi.
“The complainant gave the truck to them after they had both reached an agreement,” he said.
Olatunde said that the accused proceeded to Makurdi and did not return with the truck.
“The duo absconded with the lorry to an unknown destination.
“They vandalised the truck by removing the battery and other components and abandoned it at Ozuabam in Abia,” he said.
The prosecutor said both accused persons were arrested in Abia and brought to Lagos State after three months of their disappearance.
According to Olatunde, the offences contravene Sections 285, 312 and 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 312 prescribes a 15-year-jail term as penalty for offenders.
The accused both pleaded not guilty and were granted N200,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mr O.L Owolabi, adjourned the case till Jan.19 for mention. (NAN)
