Abuja (Sundita Post) – The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Ahmed Wase, has expressed sadness over the death of Nigeria’s first republic prime minister’ wife, Hajia Jummai Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, who passed on in the early hours of Sunday 27 October 2018, after returning from medical trip in India.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Umar Muhammad Puma, Wase described late Jummai who is the only surviving wife of the late prime minister as a committed nationalist who rendered selfless service to her country, before, during and after Nigeria’s independence.
The Deputy Speaker said the late octogenarian was committed to ideals of good governance, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect for all persons, adding that her life was full of lessons for today’s young aspiring Nigerians to learn from. “As we mourn her passage, may the Almighty Allah give her family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear the loss,” the Deputy Speaker added.
