Yola – The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced the training of 50 unemployed youths on livestock, vegetable production and basic business practice in Adamawa.
Malam Muhammed Musbahu, the Adamawa Coordinator of NDE, said this at the launch of the training on Friday in Yola.
He said that the empowerment was under the Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme in line with the directorate’s objective in creating jobs.
“Our concept frame work and approach in training skills is a direct response to their peculiar situation.
“It is on this premise that the beneficiaries will be trained in livestock, vegetable production and basic business practices; the training will be in two sections: theory and practical,’’ Musbahu said.
He reiterated the commitment of NDE to empower various categories of unemployed and vulnerable persons through its various programmes.
According to Musbahu, the directorate has recently disbursed soft loans to some of its trained beneficiaries who now operate their respective businesses.
Speaking on behalf of Adamawa Government, Mr Samuel Kudu, an Assistant Director in the State Ministry of Agriculture, lauded NDE for its efforts in creating jobs, particularly in the area of agriculture.
Kudu said the effort in agriculture complemented the services being rendered by the State Department of Extension Services of the ministry of agriculture in equipping youths and rural farmers with skills and knowledge of modern farming.
“It is time for our youth and school leavers to be attracted back to the land through a range of incentives and of which training is one of it.
“And to the trainees; I urge you to embrace this training with all sense of commitment and seriousness as it is the way to self-reliance and sustainability,” Kudu said.
