3 hunters remanded over killing of herdsman

ABEOKUTA – An Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court at Isabo on Wednesday remanded three hunters in prison over the alleged murder of a herdsman.

The accused, Sunday Peters, 20, Sugun Oderinde, 18,  and Ajani Sanni, 25 are facing a one-count charge of murder.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Banji Sangotokun, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 7 at about 6 a.m.  at Imala in Abeokuta.

Sangotokun said that the accused persons allegedly killed one Ori Isha under the pretext that they thought the victim  was an antelope.

According to the prosecutor, the accused claimed that they were surprised when the antelope turned out to be a human being.

He said that the offence contravened section 324 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.

The pleas of the accused persons were not taken by the court.

The Chief  Magistrate, Mr Anthony Araba,  remanded the trio  in Ibara Prison pending the receipt of legal advice from  the Office of the Director  of Public Prosecution.

Araba adjourned the case till  June 20 for mention. (NAN)
