Enugu – Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), on Tuesday, presented 25,000 booklets on cultism and moral guide to Enugu State Government.
The National Coordinator of the group, SP Ebere Amaraizu, made the presentation to the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eze, who represented Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The booklet, entitled “Nigeria youth in cultism and other vices’’, was published by POCACOV and meant to encourage youths to stand-up against cultism and other social vices.
Amaraizu, represented by POCACOV Administrative Officer, Mr kyrian Igwe, said that the police would continue to sensitise and involve major stakeholders in the fight against cultism, using POCACOV.
He thanked the governor for sponsoring the publication of the booklet which, according to him, will be distributed to schools and colleges in the state.
“The book will help to educate our young ones on the dangers inherent in crimes, like cultism, rape, gender-based violence and other vices.
“The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Adamu Abubakar, was right on time with POCACOV initiative which has started yielding the expected result,’’ Amaraizu said.
Responding, the governor appreciated the IGP for the POCACOV initiative and commended the group for the vigorous sensitisation against cultism and other vices in the state.
He lauded the cordial relationship and partnership between the state government and the Nigeria police.
He promised that government would ensure that the booklets got to the right people, especially students which were the target.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that POCACOV is an initiative of the IGP designed to save Nigerian youths from the menace of cultism and ensure a secured environment through community-oriented policing. (NAN)
