Kano – A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Friday, remanded a 24-year-old man, Hassan Amadu, who allegedly stole four sets of plasma television valued N155,000 from a shop in a correctional facility.
Amadu, who is from Yobe, is facing a two-count charge of shop breaking and theft.
The chief magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, ordered that the defendant be remanded in Kano correctional facility and adjourned the case until Jan. 22, for mention.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Insp Pogu Lale, had told the court that one Hassan Aminu of Na’ibawa Quarters Kano, reported the matter at Na’ibawa Police Division, Kano, on Dec. 12, 2019.
He informed the court that on the same date at about 4 a.m. the defendant broke into the shop of the complainant situated at Na’ibawa Quarters and carted away the TV sets.
After the charge was read to him, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
Lale said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 346 and 287 of the Penal Code.
