ILORIN – For the third time in less than three years, the Kwara State House of Assembly on Wednesday suspended the member representing Malete/Ipaiye-Oloru Constituency, Alhaji Iliasu Ibrahim (PDP).
The suspension was over an alleged attempted murder of a colleague.
Ibrahim was indicted by the House Committee on Ethics, Priviledges and Judiciary in its report presented during its plenary.
The indictment was for his refusal to write a letter of apology to Alhaji Yussuf Tanke (APC) after resuming from an earlier three months suspension.
Speaker of the House, Mr Rasaq Atunwa announced the fresh suspension of the legislator after the House had adopted the report of the committee on the matter.
While reading the resolution, Atunwa directed Ibrahim to commence on another three months suspension without pay from Wednesday.
The House directed Ibrahim to tender a written apology to Tanke before the expiration of the three months suspension as directed by the resolution of the House of Dec. 18, 2013.
It resolved further that the suspended member should continue to be on suspension if he continuously refuses to write the letter of apology.
Reacting to his suspension, Ibrahim told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the House lacked the competence to suspend him.
Also during the plenary, the House approved the appointment of the most senior civil servant in the Assembly, Alhaji Aliyu Olanipekun as the Deputy Clerk of the House.
The motion for the appointment of Olanipekun was moved by the Majority Leader, Alhaji Abdulkareem AbdulGaniyu supported by majority of members. (NAN)
