Abakaliki – The Ebonyi government on Monday fixed Feb.10, as terminal date for the relocation of Abakpa market and traders from Hosanna park to the Margaret Umahi international market.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the schedule for relocation had been postponed many times in the past.
The relocation schedule is contained in a release signed by the State Executive Council (EXCO) sub-committee on market movement and released by the Governor’s Media Aide, Mr Francis Nwaze.
It sought the traders’ co-operation on the issue adding that the new date “is irrevocable last date for traders in the markets to relocate”.
“The schedule follows the completion of works at the Margaret Umahi international market and agreements with various market unions,’’ the statement said.
According to the schedule the ‘fancy dealers/baby-wear dealers’ will move on Feb. 3, provision and wine beverages dealers, Feb.4, and the cosmetics and ‘hair attachment’ dealers on Feb. 5, same date for “Stationery and medicine dealers.
Also Kitchen utensils, articles and jeweleries dealers will move on Feb.7 while footwear/rubber slippers dealers are scheduled for Feb.6.
Electronics, electrical, phones and its accessories dealers are billed to relocate on Feb.8; bags, luggage, miscellaneous goods and bicycle parts dealers: Feb.9 while “pomo’’ (meat prepared from dried Cow skin), foodstuffs and allied commodity traders are for Feb.10.
The government in the statement, advised the traders to adhere strictly to the arrangement as it would not adjust the relocation time table.
“Traders who have paid up to 50 per cent for shops and warehouses should submit photocopies of all their payments to the shop allocation committee for the issuance of allocation papers,” the statement said. (NAN)
