Lafia – Mr Salihu Alkali, a Chairmanship aspirant for Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa State Council, has pledged to deliver popular policies and programmes that would improve the welfate of journalists in the state, if elected on April 16.
Alkali, who is a staff of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRSC), made the promise after he picked his nomination form at the state NUJ Secretariat in Lafia on Wednesday.
He said that improved welfare for journalists would not only boost their standard of living but would also enhance their productivity.
He assured journalists of open door policy if given the mandate.
” I want to thank you my colleagues for showing me this kind of solidarity and by God Grace I will not disappoint you.
“We are going to provide and ensure improved welfare for journalists by keying into good policies and programmes that will have direct bearing on our lives and other people at large.
“I am also going to promote peace and unity among journalists by making sure that all things that will bind us together are promoted,” he said.
Alkali also dismissed speculations that he belong to an opposition political party in the state.
He urged the NUJ electoral committee to conduct a free and fair election in the interest of peace and development.
The chairmanship aspirant appealed to men of the pen profession in the state to come out en-mass and vote for him.
Earlier, Mr Samuel Abiodun, the Director-General of Salihu Alkali Campaign Organisation, appealed to members of the union to vote for Alkali for peace, unity, progress and development of the council.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that journalists across chapels, including Mr Sunday John of NAN contesting for Secretaryship position, were in attendance.
