Ikeja – The police on Monday arraigned a 51-year-old driver, Peter Obi and a 32-year-old welder, Christian Odah, in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 28 solar inverter batteries.
The police charged Obi, who resides in Ifo in Ogun State and Odah who lives at No. 5 Ebere St., Isolo, Lagos, with two counts of conspiracy and theft.
They pleaded not guilty.
The Police Counsel, Sgt. Michael Unah, alleged the defendants conspired and broke into the office premises of one Mr Chukwuemeka Bukoh and stole 28 solar inverter batteries.
Unah told the court that the defendants committed the offence with some others, who are at large on Dec. 24 2019 about 1.29 a.m. at Iyana-ipaja in Lagos.
The defendants, he said, were arrested at Iyana-ipaja alongside with the stolen items while their accomplices ran away.
Chief Magistrate A. A. Fashola admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.
Fashola ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified by the court.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the alleged offences violate sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal laws of Lagos State 2015, (revised)
NAN reports that that stealing is punishable with three years jail term while conspiracy is attracts two years, if found convicted.
The Magistrate adjourned the case until March 23 for mention.
