Birniwa (Jigawa) – The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has empowered women and youths in Targeri, Birniwa Local Government Area of Jigawa.
The authority distributed 110 sewing and grinding machines to the beneficiaries.
The NPA Information Officer in the area, Alhaji Fahad Mohammad, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Birniwa on Wednesday that the authority was represented by Alhaji Ali Garba, who distributed the machines as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
He said that the agency would be visiting the area frequently to monitor how the machines were being put into use by the beneficiaries.
Alhaji Umar Baffa, the Vice Chairman of Birniwa Local Government Council, commended the agency for the empowerment, pledging that the council will assist the beneficiaries in starting their own businesses to become self-reliant.
He however urged the beneficiaries to use the machines judiciously.
