Lagos – Rev. Fr. Joseph Yusuf, the Associate Priest of the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church Tedi, in Lagos has cautioned youths against hard drug.
Yusuf said this on Sunday in his message at the Mass to celebrate `Holiness and its reward in the life of Christians’.
He said that not doing the will of God for one’s life lead to frustrations and drug addiction.
Yusuf advised Nigerian youths to shun the habit of drug intake and addiction to remain good citizens in the society.
He expressed concern over constant seisure of hard drug at the nation’s entry points by law enforcement agents.
He said that intake of such drug destroyed both spiritual and physical lives of those that indulged in them.
“It only provide those in it a fake escape to reality of their situation while destroying their body’s essential organs making them incapacitated to shoulder responsibilities in the society.
“Abiding in the will of God will shield one from every anxiety that can force one into peer pressure and emulating bad habits from others.
“Jesus Christ began his earthly ministry as a young person and ended it with a crown of glory as a youth because He never derailed from God’s will for Him,” he said.
According to him, the society lacks confidence in the youth of today hence the elderly continue to recycle themselves in leadership positions in every facet of the society.
He appealed to government to tighten surveillance to ensure that no narcotics enter the country.
Yusuf urged Nigerian youths to emulate Jesus Christ’s youthful mission and take over the administration of the country from the older generation.
Mr Gerald Anosike, the Youth President of the Church said that, the issue of drug addiction among youths had deprived them of their prime time achievements.
He added that the youth wing of the Badagry Deniary where the parish belonged had an outreach that counsel youths against drugs and reform those already involved.
