Lagos- The Managing Director of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Mr Gabriel Amuchi, on Tuesday in Lagos said that the agency would henceforth prosecute road abuse offenders.
AmuchI, who said this during an inspection of road maintenance projects in the state, explained that the appropriate mechanism had been put in place to address the recurrent phenomenon.
He said that the Federal Road Committee on Surveillance and Action Against Road Abuse (FERCSARA) had been empowered for the task.

“FERCSARA has been strengthened and they have done the first stage of their assignment, is awareness campaign and the second stage is sanction.
“So from this year, you will see a change with respect to arrest and sanction for those who unduly abuse our roads in line with the ministerial directive, all elements of road abuses this year would be discouraged.

“And all those involved would be sanctioned; they would be arrested; they will be tried according to the laws of the country.
“Like I used to say it is not proper for us as Nigerians to watch government put infrastructure in place and soon after, you are defacing them, you are damaging them, you are destroying them.
“It is no longer acceptable, a lot of these measures would be place based on the approval of government with respect to the directive from the last Council of Works meeting.
“That from this year so many of these acts of abusing the roads and defacing our roads infrastructure and cutting across and vandalising road elements would be checked.“
