LAGOS – Isioma Williams, the Director, GONG BEAT, a dance company, on Saturday urged all tiers of government to step up the nation’s cultural relations with other countries to promote its culture.
Williams told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that governments should collaborate with all artistes to promote their cultures, especially dancers, to reduce the negative reports about Nigeria[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″].
“It is time we show our positive image through arts, culture and entertainment to the world; these are the things that would make Nigeria unique.
“That is why am teaching the youth and children dance, drumming and others to give them a leeway to [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]promote Nigeria’s unique culture.
“Dancers tend to make other countries see Nigeria in a positive light and they should come and enjoy [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]what Nigeria is enjoying,’’ he said.
Williams said that Africa uniqueness in arts, culture and entertainment should be shown to the [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”8″]world[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″].
“Other countries tour the world with their cultures and showcases what they have, what sells a country is its arts and culture and entertainment,’’ he said.
He said that dance act was not growing as fast as it should because of the lack of promotion and attitude of the people towards dance act.
“We have been promoting our own profession in spite of lack of funds; dance is entertaining yes, but at the same time people should feed with it.
“Abroad, dance is a serious business and people tour the world with it; time has passed when people are called to come and dance for the sake of enjoyment, money is charged.
“We want to change all that perspective and bring dance to its glory; I want us to start from somewhere and with government collaboration,’’ he said.(NAN)
