Lafia – The Police Command in Nasarawa State said it had deployed 491 personnel for the Nasarawa-Central Constituency House of Assembly by-election scheduled for Aug. 8.
ASP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), stated this in a statement he issued to newsmen on Friday in Lafia.
He also said that the command would ensure strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols during the election.
The command’s spokesperson also said that the personnel had been thoroughly lectured to be civil in the discharge of their duties and respect the fundamental human rights of the electorate.
“In view of the above, we want to assure the electorate that the Police is ever ready to provide the much needed security for the conduct of the by-election.
“Consequently, we want to warn all those who may want to foment troubles during this election to steer clear or risk being arrested and decisively dealt with according to the provisions of the law.
“We will be supported by personnel from the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Service, Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps to ensure free, fair and credible elections,” the PPRO added.
Nansel said that the police in conjunction with other security agencies had put in place a comprehensive and a solid security arrangement aimed at frustrating any criminal agenda.
