work or face ‘no-work-no-pay’ policy.
Gov. Ibrahim Shema issued the threat in Katsina during a meeting with the state officials of Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) and some religious leaders.
Shema said that the state owed the health sector nothing and described the strike as unjustifiable.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“Of all the demands of health workers, here in Katsina, we have no issue with them; so, one has no reason to join the strike.
“If you look at the impact of the strike to the public, you will see that people are suffering, therefore, [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
you either suspend it or you will not get salaries,’’ he warned.
He also said that the government spends N120 million monthly on drug revolving scheme to enhance [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
healthcare services in the state.
Shema added that the government constructed a dispensary in every ward, in addition to the 34 comprehensive healthcare centres and a number of general hospitals in the state.
He explained that the government provides free healthcare services to children and pregnant women as well as accident victims, among others.
Shema said those efforts were aimed to improving health care delivery in the state.
The union’s Secretary, Alhaji Sani Yusuf, however urged the government to look into their demands before they could suspend the strike.
He said that the action followed the inability of the government to satisfy their demands, so, their reasons for the strike were genuine.
All the religious leaders spoke extensively on the effects of the prolong strike and urged the workers to suspend it immediately.
It would be recalled that JOHESU had told the media that it would sustain the industrial action until met its demands. (NAN)
