Insurgency: Homeland security plans national security exhibition, conference

ABUJA –  Chief Frank Ohwofa, Managing Director, Homeland Security-Africa, a private security organisation, has said his company would soon organise an exhibition and a conference on protection of lives and property.

Ohwofa stated this in Abuja on Sunday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The security expert said that the conference would identify and highlight new technologies that would help in enhancing security in the country.

Ohwofa stressed the need to sensitise the general public on security issues, noting that the people had a key role to play in obtaining, distilling and using information to enhance the nation’s security.

He said the conference would also educate security agencies on how to protect informants from being harmed.

The managing director dismissed the perception in some quarters the fight against insurgents was solely for the government to handle, saying that everybody must be involved.

“It is we that own this fight and not the government, because we are direct victims of the insurgency; government’s assets destroyed cannot measure up to the lives lost in this fight.

“You could also see that most of the top government officials have security agents attached to them for protection, leaving the masses more prone and vulnerable to attacks.

“Therefore, I want the people not to deceive themselves, that it is the government that these people are fighting, but we the general public,’’ he said.

He said the conference would impart on participants, the capacity, competence and skills needed for the control and management of security issues.

“It will provide an opportunity where we will share experience with other countries passing through security challenges.

“It will also bring a synergy within security agencies on information sharing, which is the fundamental tool in fighting such heinous crime.’’

According to him, the conference, which will hold in June, has received the approval of the Office of National Security Adviser to the President.

Ohwofa said the resource persons for the seminar would be drawn from international security organisations. (NAN)
