The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Sarah Yusuf, said the policy provided a standard for development of effective measures to care givers and parents to be able to respond positively to the needs and protection of children.
She said that Plateau was first among the 19 northern states to initiate such policy which was to ensure that children enjoy their rights to the fullest.
According to her, the policy will ensure that children are safe while interacting with their peer groups and other members of the society.
“All hands must be on deck to ensure that this important obligation is fulfilled,“ she said.
Yusuf urged parents and care givers to adhere to the provisions of law and the policy to create a good opportunity for children.
The Attorney General of the state, Mrs Olivia Dazen, who was represented at the occasion by Mr Georgina Dashe, Director, Citizen’s Rights and Law Reforms, said that children are the treasure and future of the country.
“Children are the leaders of tomorrow and if we don’t give them a good environment to learn then the future will be bad,“ She said.
According to her, it is a desire of every parent to see his child grow up in a right way.
In her remarks, one of the students at the occasion, Silvia Taddy thanked the Ministry for implementing the child rights law in the state.
Taddy urged parents and teachers to put the policy into actualisation in the interest of the children. (NAN)
