Abuja- Mr Fred Aleburu, the Country Director, African-American Centre for Governance and Development, an NGO, on Tuesday, urged youths to shun acts of violence during the forthcoming elections.
Aleburu gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
He said that youths who constituted about 60 per cent of the population of the country, must work for the interest of the nation.
Aleburu noted that youths could easily be used as tools by politicians due to poverty and unemployment in the country.

“I want to appeal to all shades of youths in Nigeria to have self-control and stay out of violence because it will only do them harm.
“They should bear in mind that the politicians who hire them for violent activities, send their own children abroad for safety,”
He appealed to them to come out and vote, saying that it was only by voting that they could make a positive change in the society.
In a separate interview, Mrs Felicia Onibon, the Executive Director, Change Managers International Networks, also appealed to the youths to engage in meaningful activities and shun violence during the elections.
“I am very happy to say that a lot of youths have been engaged this season; people are talking to them, talking to different groups, those in the motor parks,’’ she said.
Onibon, however, advised them to express their views and grievances through the social media and by engaging their representatives rather than taking to the streets to cause violence.
“As much as possible we should maintain peace during the elections,’’ she said. (NAN)
