Abuja- Some women leaders converged on Abuja on Monday to brainstorm on the need to ensure violence-free, peaceful and successful general elections in February.
The meeting, which had the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan in attendance, was attended by women from Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), some professional bodies and faith-based organisations.
A communique issued after the meeting by the organisers advised women to remain united and work toward peaceful conduct of the 2015 general elections.
The women appealed to the electorate to shun violence and embrace peace to ensure progress in the country.

They also called on INEC to ensure that all eligible voters collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) on time to enable them to vote.
“No eligible vote should be disenfranchised,” they added.
The women noted the numerous achievements of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in particular and successes recorded by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
They resolved to work harder at the grassroots to ensure that Nigerians vote massively for President Jonathan in the Presidential election and for all PDP candidates in other elections.
They urged women and groups to continue to pray for the country and for God’s intervention in the process to ensure peaceful and successful elections.
The women called on relevant organisations and PDP stakeholders to engage in massive voter education to ensure that voters understood the party symbols clearly to avoid incidents of voided votes. (NAN)
