EKET, Akwa Ibom (Sundiata Post) – The Eket Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party and its election campaign train led by the former Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development and ex National Assembly Member, Chief Nduese Essien; the chapter chairman of the party, Evang Godwin David and Former State House of Assembly member, Mr. Jack Udota, Thursday flagged off a door-to-door campaign with the visit to villages in the area ahead of this month’s general election.
Some of the villages visited included Ikot Ikpe, Ikot Obio Atta, Ikot Akpa Ukpong among others. The campaign tour which continues daily is expected to cover all the seventy eight villages in the Oil rich city of Eket.
Addressing the mammoth crowd of villagers that gathered at Ikot Ikpe village hall to receive the campaign train, Chief Nduese Essien, who expressed appreciation to the villagers for the warm reception accorded the team , informed the people that he was in their domain to sensitise them on the forth coming election, and used the opportunity to canvass for votes for President Goodluck Jonathan, the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Mr Udom Emmanuel; Eket senatorial district National Assembly candidate, Chief Nelson Effiong and. State House of Assembly candidate, David Lawrence.
He urged the people of the area not to cast their vote for any party other than the PDP, assuring that they would be better off under the PDP-led government both from the national to state level.
The former minister, who is the political leader in Eket, enjoined those who are yet to acquire their permanent voters’ card (PVC), to endeavour to collect them at the designated distribution centres nearer to them in order for them to exercise their civic responsibilities.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Worried by the current state of the Village hall in Ikot Ikpe, Chief Essien offered to roof the building to make it conducive for the villagers to hold their meetings.
Also the Chapter PDP Chairman, Evang. Godwin Bassey; Vice Chairman, Eket local government Council, Mr. Victor Henry and other stakeholders in the area, enlightened the electorate on why they should vote for President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and other Candidates of the PDP into office during 14th and 28th of February.
Responding, the village heads, youth and women leaders of the villages visited commended the PDP campaign team in the area for penetrating grassroots, noting that the PDP is the only party that enjoys massive support from the grassroot.
