OKO ITA – Ibiono Ibom Youths for Development and Democracy, a non-governmental organisation, has empowered 132 youths in Akwa Ibom with N11.4 million.
The President of the organisation, Mr Moses Essien, disclosed this on Friday while presenting the money to the beneficiaries at Oko Ita, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
Essien said that 22 youths from the local government in tertiary institutions would receive N20, 000 each as scholarship, while 110 others would be empowered with N100, 000 each to go into any business of their choice.
“The beneficiaries of this award were carefully selected across the 11 wards of Ibono Ibom Local Government Area.
“Twenty two students in tertiary institutions of learning across the local government area will get a scholarship of N20, 000 each.
“One hundred and ten youths and women in the 11 wards of the local government will receive N100, 000 as empowerment for their businesses,’’ he said.
Essien said that the award was made possible courtesy of their patron, Mr Bassey Akpan, the Commissioner for Finance in Akwa Ibom.
He urged the beneficiaries of the award to make judicious use of the money in uplifting themselves and their families.
Essien thanked the patron for his magnanimity in supporting the organisation for 11 years and urged other indigenes of the area to emulate him.
Mr Asuakak Umoh, one of the beneficiaries and a 100-level Psychology student of the University of Uyo, also thanked the donor for his kind gesture. (NAN)
