Mr Hammed Abodunrin, the Ondo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), says he has deployed 1,857 personnel to worship and recreational centres as well as parks to ensure a hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration in the state.
Abodunrin said this in a statement signed and made available to newsmen by the command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSC Olufemi Omole, on Saturday in Akure.
The commandant said that the personnel were deployed to those public places to beef up security before, during and after the Muslims’ festival.
Abodunrin said that the officers and men deployed were drawn from the Anti-vandal Squad, the Counter Terrorist Unit, the Intelligence and Investigation Department, the Agro Rangers Squad and the Anti-human Trafficking Unit.
He reitarated his commitment to pursuing the corps’ mandate of safeguarding all critical national assets and infrastructure.
It would be involved in disaster management by conducting search and rescuing victims in the face of emergency and providing proactive information to the public before crisis erupts, he said.
According to him, intelligence gathering, training and supervison of private guard companies, fighting vandals who tamper with oil pipelines, telecommunication gadgets and electrical/power installations are also part of the corps’ mandate.
“The need to harness all resources, both human and materials, for security beef-up before, during and after the Eid-el-Kabir festival, cannot be undermined.
“Recent challenges, however, should not make the public to panic but rather ginger them to collaborate with all security agencies by providing credible information that will assist to nip in the bud all forms of criminalities in the state.
“So no fewer than 1,857 officers and men have been deployed to Eid prayer centers, mosques, recreational centers, motor parks, churches and other public arenas for adequate security,” he said.
