She spoke in an exclusive interview with ‘Teen Vogue’.Tems, whose full name is Temilade Openiyi, has been singing for as long as she can remember.
She eventually came into the spotlight with the release of her single “Mr Rebel” in 2018 when she decided to answer to her true calling, ‘music’ by quitting her day job as a Digital Marketing executive.

Speaking on why she decided to call her own brand of Afrobeats music the Spirit genre, the “Damages” explained she was actually in-between jokes and reality when said that. But very importantly, making music is entirely a spiritual experience for her.
Tems said: “I like to crack jokes a lot so in a way, I was joking when I called it Spirit but also I wasn’t. What I mean is, that’s where my songs come from. They come from my spirit.
“Music is a very spiritual experience for me and that’s why I call it Spirit. It makes you feel and for me, it comes from a very pure place.”
