Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications commission, (NCC) Prof Umar Danbatta has said that trust and confidentiality promote healthy digital environment and ensuring best practices to guarantee the the integrity of the digital data.
Prof Danbatta who was represented by who was represented by the Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management at NCC, Mr Adeleke Adewolu, stated this on Wednesday at the annual cybersecurity conference 2021, with the theme: ‘Building Trust in the Digital economy through cybersecurity and sensitisation on the implementation of of the national cybersecurity policy and strategy.’
According to the EVC, to input digital trust and confidentiality, the digital economy should be based on trusted technologies and partnerships; ensuring strong cybersecurity that rides on the public confidence, security, privacy and safety and also responsive regulation, transparency, accountability and digital coherence.
Danbatta also paid tribute to the federal government’s drive to promote cybersecurity and fostering trust and prosperity in telecoms.
The NCC Boss highlighted that most of the digital economies are changing how trust is valued by institutions, businesses and general public. The trust is expressed in terms of business partnership and transaction and security business transaction.
He said that the pace at which technology advanced, acceleration of innovations and enterprise in the digital space amplified vulnerability opportunities, which malicious parties were quick to exploit, thereby slowing down the gains of digital economy.
Danbatta also said that a strong cybersecurity would reduce the surface of vulnerabilities in the digital economy that could be exploited.
The NCC Executive vice chairman called on all cybersecurity stakeholders to key into the NCPS, 2021, to accelerate the adoption of its various components, citing it as a collective responsibility since no single government, business or individual was immune or could do it alone.
“NCC is in the forefront of ensuring a sound cybersecurity culture that is built on people, process and technology.
He said that the technological advancements brought about by the cyberspace today and the increase in cybercrimes: Identity theft, social media and fake news campaigns have increased in different dimension and have affected the notion of trust in digital era.
Also the National Security Advisers, Major General Babagana Monguno (rtrd) who was also represented by the Director of communications at ONSA, Brig.-Gen. Samad Akesode, commended the giant strides of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) as it affects the Nigerian digital economy.
Munguno called on the stakeholders to make trust the foundation of all they do, adding that trust is very fundamental in all human endeavours.
He also said that information sharing is necessary to secure the cyberspace and cybersecurity.
