The residents of Garin Dan Alti in Lano District, Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State, have decried the lack of basic amenities in their community. The community claimed this has affected the socio-economic activities and human capital development of the town, adding that the community is subjected to undue hardship following the absence of basic amenities in the area.
According to the Village Head, Jauro Saleh, Garin Dan Alti the lack of access road to the town is a major challenge that with multiple challenges on the living conditions of the people.
Saleh said, “Especially during the rainy season which causes flooding and thereby obstructing vehicular movement in and outside the town. The Village Head noted that Garin Dan Alti does not have a visible Government project in the area.
“We don’t have a single project in the name of democratic gains, it is not only about the lack of an access road to the town, there is no portable drinking water, school and hospital in the entire town.
“I wish to call on the Gombe State Government, under the able leadership of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya and the Senator representing Gombe central in the Senate red chamber, Alhaji Muhammadu Danjuma Goje, to provide them with the necessary basic amenities to cushion their hardship,” he added.
Also speaking, on the challenges facing the town, a resident in the area, Ibrahim Lami explained that due to lack of access road network movement has become stressful.
He said, “We find it very difficult to transport patients to health care facilities due to lack of road. This community have spent a lot of resources trying to repair the dilapidated roads in the town but there were still no good results despite consultations with those in power at various levels of government.”
Lami added, “Apart from the lack of access to Garin Dan Alti has at least 1,000 houses and about 5,000 people, the town is facing enormous challenges such as Erosion, lack of pipe-borne water, schools and basic healthcare facilities.”
He called on the Gombe State Government and other members of the State and Federal Legislature to come to their aid, by providing them with an accessible road network to the town, which is not more than 2.5 kilometres from the main road.
All efforts made to reach the Chairman, Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area, Shaibu Galadima was unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
