Awka- Youth groups in Anambra on Saturday urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rescind open presidential ticket ahead of the party primary and 2023 general elections.
The groups comprising Peter Obi Support Network (POSN), Nigeria Needs Peter Obi Movement, Nigerian Students for Peter Obi, Take Back Naija group,
Peter Obi National Mandate and others, made the call during a One Million Man-March in Awka.
Speaking to journalists at the PDP secretariat, Mr Ikechukwu Anonye, the Coordinating Chairman of all Peter Obi Support groups, said that such decision by PDP to throw the contest for presidential ticket open instead of zoning was unjust.
“Today’s solidarity walk is to let the PDP know that we are aware that the party has a constitution that supports rotation of the presidency between the North and the South.
“Now that it is the turn of the South, and precisely the Southeast. We heard that a committee has met and decided to throw the ticket open for everybody. We consider such move unjust.
“This unjust move will not be accepted. We appeal to PDP leaders to revert to the Southeast or the South in general and we know that they can rescind their decision.
“Every other zone has had a shot at the presidency except the Southeast. If they do not do the right thing, I think PDP should forget it, ” he said.
Anonye said the solidarity walk was also to woo delegates to support Mr Peter Obi as the flag bearer of PDP.
“Today’s rally is also to register our support for Mr Peter Obi and woo delegates as the party prepares for its primaries.
“He is the only hope of PDP.
“If he is this accepted by the masses and the party decides to disefranchise him, then it spells doom for the party and they should just go home and forget 2023, ” he said. (NAN)
