“The militants attacked the justice department half an hour ago in Jalalabad city, opening fire at the police guarding the department,’’ Ahmad Abdulzai, governor spokesman for Nangarhar province said.
He said that the security forces had arrived in the area and that the fighting was ongoing, with no immediate reports of casualties.
A Taliban spokesman and a witness said that the gunmen had entered the premises and were firing from inside the building.
The Taliban has said that it would start its spring offensive on Monday, targeting Afghan and NATO troops as well as civilian government employees.
The Interior Ministry said that the two rockets landed at the Kabul international airport on Monday but caused no casualties. (dpa/NAN)
