ILORIN- The 1990 set of St. Anthony Secondary School (SASSOSA 90), Old Students Association, Ilorin, has offered six students of the institution scholarships and expanded one of the staff rooms to accommodate more teachers.
These events were part of activities marking the 2022 reunion get-together of the set in Ilorin on Thursday.
Presenting the scholarship awards in a brief ceremony, the President of the 1990 set, Mr Toyin Ibitoye, said they were giving back to the school in phases, describing the day’s event as Phase 1.
Ibitoye, represented by the Secretary of the Class of 90, Mr Tunde Adedeji, said the set would continue to give support to the school because of what it has given to them.
“We are proud to be part of this great school; we have gained so much than just education from our school.
“Hence, we are here today to give back to the school that has done so much for us.
“I will also mention here that the projects we want to do are in stages and this is stage 1.
“There are other stages we will be embarking on. We will still need all your support to achieve this with my great classmates,” Ibitoye said.
This view was further underscored by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the set, Mr Femi Bolaji.
The Scholarship Committee Chairman, Mr Bolaji Ige, said the performance of students (beneficiaries) and financial strength of their parents were few of the issues considered before the beneficiaries were chosen.
He appealed to the students to take their studies seriously so that they can also give back to the society just as they are doing.
The Project Committee Chairman, Mr Dayo Gawati, advised the students to always follow their passion in order to succeed in life.
He said one of the ways that they could become successful in the future is to take their studies seriously, focused on school activities and being good ambassadors of their families.
One of the beneficiaries, Chidi Emmanuel, thanked members of SASSOSA 90 for the gesture and promised to be serious in order to succeed in life like them.
The 11-year-old Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) student said he want to become a lawyer in future so that he can defend the voiceless and stand for Nigeria.
