MAIDUGURI – The Minister of State for Power, Alhaji Mohammed Wakil, said Federal Government had put adequate security measures in place for all Nigerians during and after the general elections.
This information is conveyed in a statement issued in Maiduguri on Friday by Mr Olawale Rasheed, the Special Assistant on Media to Wakil.
The statement said Wakil gave the reassurance in Maiduguri during town hall meeting with socio-cultural groups who came to express support for the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan.
“Wakil called on Nigerians living in different parts of the country to remain in places where they are resident and cast their votes to ensure victory for Jonathan rather than flee to their home states.
“I call on Southerners living in the North to remain and use their votes to re-elect President Goodluck Jonathan on March 28.
“I want to assure them that the Federal Government will provide security for all citizens in their states of residence before and after the elections,” Wakil stressed in the statement.
The statement further quoted Wakil saying that running away from the North would deprive many southerners of their voting power.
“This country belongs to all of us and you must stay and use your vote to elect your preferred leader.
“I urge those who have left to return and we appeal to those thinking of leaving to shelve the idea”, it said.

It said the minister was happy to hear that the groups had started mobilisation for re-election of Jonathan “and our Borno PDP governorship candidate, Alhaji Mohammed Imam.
“A PDP government in Borno will ensure that non-indigenes are well represented in government in line with the tradition of the state.”
Wakil, in the statement, also said a vote for Jonathan was a choice for continuous transformation of Nigeria for the better.
“He said it was in the interest of the North to vote for Jonathan so that by 2019, the North can commence it’s tenure till 2027.
“I have repeatedly warned our people against supporting a one-term presidency which Gen. Mohammadu Buhari has been committed.
“A vote for Buahri is a vote for the return of presidency to the South West through the backdoor”, he said in the statement. (NAN)
