IBADAN – A don, Dr Monsurat Musa, said on Saturday that educating women would assist in educating the society. Musa, a senior lecturer in the Department of Educational Foundation and Management, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun, made the observation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan. She said women should be educated to free them from all forms of social, political and economic problems. “The nation is currently experiencing political and religious crises because women are unfairly treated in the scheme of things. “I affirm that since women give birth to children and supervise their upbringing, they will definitely have positive impact on them,” she said. According to the don, the direct effect of the inequalities meted out to the women are the vices being experienced in the society. Musa advised government as well as other stakeholders to support women attain leadership position. “For the 2014 International Women’s Day celebration to be meaningful to Nigerian women, men have to stop all forms of violence against women. “Sexual, physical, psychological, economic, social, emotional and the likes have to be stopped by Nigerian men. “By so doing, vices like corruption, kidnapping, prostitution and insurgency will be minimised. “When you educate a woman, you are educating the entire society because she teaches the family,” Musa added. NAN recalls that the United Nations set aside March 8 every year to mark the International Day of women which was first celebrated in 1911.
