Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Managing Director, Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED), Engr. Abdu Bello has promised to support both the rice and groundnut millers by providing 100 percent electricity supply to the sector within its franchise States.
This was disclosed at the weekend in Gombe when he visited the Rice and Groundnuts Millers Association.
He promised that JED would supply stable and regular electricity to the millers adding that the company would also implement the idea of collaborating with customers in some clusters to achieve 100% cash collection.
He disclosed that under the proposed arrangement, both the Rice and Groundnuts Miller Associations would be engaged to take responsibility for revenue collection from their members on a commission basis.
To match words with action, the JED boss set up a high-powered committee to work out the modalities that would be mutually acceptable to all the parties.
He advised the millers to pay for their consumed energy, enlightening them on the operations of the power company.
According to him: “We buy this product ( electricity) from the NBET and it is transported to us via Transmission Company of Nigeria – TCN, and sold to customers and we are expected to pay for the energy we took to the bulk trader 100%”.
“We, therefore, expect you to pay for the energy you consumed 100%”, Mohammed said.
However, the Millers who complained that they have two faulty transformers, the JED boss ordered for the immediate repair within one week.
He informed that the power company would soon meter all its transformers for energy accountability.
In their separate remarks, Alhaji Lawan Yusuf, Chairman of the Rice Millers Association and his Groundnut counterpart, Alhaji Sani Ya’u thanked the Managing Director for the visit and promised to support the company.
