Mr Bayo Onanuga, spokesman of President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has shaken off criticism over his tweet forbidding the involvement of the Igbo in the politics of Lagos, saying he has no apology over the assertion.
GWG.ng reports that Onanuga, director of media and publicity in the APC Presidential campaign had in a tweet early on Sunday reproached the Igbo for supposedly involving themselves in the politics of Lagos State apparently vowing that with the advent of Tinubu as president that the Igbo would not be allowed in the politics of Lagos State.
He said:
Let 2023 be the last time of Igbo interference in Lagos politics. Let there be no repeat in 2027. Lagos is like Anambra, Imo, any Nigerian state. It is not No Man’s Land, not Federal Capital Territory. It is Yoruba land. Mind your business.
His tweet has so far been strongly condemned by many with some Yoruba joining the fray in rebuking the 65-year-old former journalist.
Reiterating his tweet, he said:
GWG.ng gathered some of the tweets notably with Yoruba identity.
Mr Black @AgentBlackSaint
I’m a fellow yoruba and for someone a generation or two ahead of me, you are a disgrace.
Ayo Obe @naijama:
What is the need for this tweet at this time from a man holding such a position in the President-elect’s Campaign Council?
When we vote, we participate in politics: is that what is being called interference?
As to the rest, when mad people beat drums, sane people don’t dance.
Gbenga Oloniniran @gbenga_von:
Quite divisive. The igbo people contribute immensely to the economy of Lagos and are affected by the government policies. They should have a say in the state’s politics. Politicians should stop playing ethnic cards.
Sir Odutola King @odus_king:
From the Director of Media & Publicity, Tinubu/Shettima Campaign. This is not a slip of tongue. It represents the view and political ideology of their campaign/government. When they go live on TV and speak NATIONAL UNITY, DO NOT BELIEVE THEM
Also reacting to Onanuga on his comment on the Igbo, kehinde says #EndSARS @kenyAdegboyega said:
Bayo Onanuga, a journalist, co-founder of TheNews Magazine and a former manager of the News Agency of Nigeria is publicly endorsing ethnic profiling, bigotry, thuggery, violence, murder and voter intimidation that happened during the Lagos elections.
Ademola Johnson @Adem4christ2008:
As a Yoruba man, I’m sad of the comments I’m seeing here. This country is far from righteousness, which exalts a nation. I’m glad nobody is leaving this world with any title. What a world of vanity. We shall give account.
Toyin @toyinjaz:
Was an Igbo person on the ballot? What interference exactly? Trying to vote? Exercising their constitutional right to choose their leaders? People should not be able to say things like this in public and get away with it. A very big, fat shame on you. (GWG.ng)
