Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Senator Abba Moro has opined that the 10th National Assembly, especially the Senate must rise up to the occasion and reposition Nigeria to save her from disintegration.
The Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Benue South Senatorial District in the out-going 9th Senate who was re-elected to serve in the 10th National Assembly said that the feelers he is getting from his colleagues who survived the political tsunami is to the effect that they are going to be very careful in picking the next leadership of the National Assembly, especially principal officers in the Senate. Adding that they will put personal interest behind national interest.
Abba Moro stated this in an interview with journalists on what to expect from the 10th National Assembly, State of the economy and the just concluded general elections in the country.
According to the former Interior Minister, ” For those of us who are coming back have more experience of the avalanche of criticisms against the 9th Senate. This time around, we will be very careful. Guided by the mistakes of the 9th Senate to pick principal officers that will walk the system for the benefit of Nigerians. So if Nigerians think that the 9th Senate has not done so much for them, the 10th Senate certainly should be an improvement and talking about improvement, we have to take steps higher than we are taking now and the beginning of that journey is the selection of leaders. And I am hoping, from the feelers I am getting from my colleagues that we are going to be very careful in picking the next leadership of the NASS, especially in the Senate.
On the state of the economy and the naira design policy, Senator Abba Moro said he does not think there has never been a more voodoo economies than this one. Adding that Nigerians don’t deserve to be put through this present harrowing experience without any definable direction and result.
In his words: ” I think there has never been a more voodoo than this one. Nigerians don’t deserve this nonsense. They don’t deserve to be put through this harrowing experience without any definable direction and result. Because you are in charge, you just decided to put the rest of us at your own mercy. I think that is not good governance. I hope sincerely the 10th Senate should rise up to the occasion and reposition this country because I cannot see how we will not disintegrate if we maintain this stance for another one year. There is nothing personal about the experience that we are going through here but it is about the country. It is about also the perception of the people, what government is, because if you drive this perception, psychological attitude of Nigerian people, it will take us years to recover ourselves. I think that no responsible government will want to go that route.”
Senator Abba Moro called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other agencies that are in charge of the system to rise up and salvage the situation.
