Gwagwalada (FCT), – A 39-year-old civil servant, Bala Jojis, on Tuesday appeared before an Upper Area Court, Gwagwalada in the FCT, charged with defrauding two job seekers of N970,000.Jojis, a personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service, FCT Command, is facing a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and cheating.The Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko told the court that on Sept. 29, 2021, the defendant and one Sanusi Mohammed now at large, both personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service, conspired and collected the sum of N970,000 from Philo Thomas and her brother, Ijumdia Dunyaranda, both residents of Abuja,.The prosecutor said that the defendant and his accomplice obtained the amount from the complainants on the pretext of fixing them up with a job in the service of the Nigerian Correctional Service and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) respectively.Tanko said that the money was paid into the defendant’s account domiciled with Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB).He said that the defendant and Mohammed later converted the money to their own personal use.The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provision of Sections 97, 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.The Judge, Abdullahi Abdulkarim, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.Abdulkarim ordered that the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction, submit their means of identification to the court registrar and must enter a bond of N500,000 each.He subsequently adjourned the case until May 24 for hearing.
